And The Answer Is…

Reading the verse this week, the T.V. game show Jeopardy came to mind.  Alex Trebek announcing the category “Bible Study” The answer,  “Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.”  Contestant one chines in, ” What is I won the lottery?” Alex, “No, not quite, but thanks for playing.  How about either of the other two contestants?  Do you have a guess?”  Another brave soul buzzes, “What is Easter?”  “No, but at least you answered something from the Bible.” kids Alex.  “The correct answer is, What is my fig  trees have no figs, my vines have no grapes, my crops have all failed and my livestock are gone!” ( Habakkuk 3:17)

Yes, the prophet wrote that even though he had nothing left he would still be joyful and Praise the Lord!! Now that’s some Holy Gratitude!  I don’t know about you, but my first reaction when something not so great happens usually isn’t to give God my praise.  My words can be harsh and blaming.  Sometimes even asking God, “why me?”, “why this?”, “why now?”  When I should be humbling myself and seeing the promises God has for me, just like the author of Habakkuk.

2 Corinthians  reminds us, “We are pressed on all sides, but not crushed; perplexed; but not in despair.” Even in the storms of life that will continue to come and go we can find gratitude and give our heavenly Father praise.  He is with us through it all.

A few years ago I started a gratitude journal.  Everyday (or most days) I write down 3, 5, maybe 10 things I am grateful for no matter how I am feeling or what life is bringing to me.  What this journal has become is a fabulous go-to when I am feeling pressed and pulled from all sides, when I have failed or in despair.  I have tons to be grateful for and to give God praise.

Here are a few things I have jotted down in my journal:

God’s Grace

my health

I woke up today

my job

I am breathing

smell of coffee

my African violets blooming

my voice

lady bugs

clean water

The list goes on and on. Looking back I see all that God has put in my life that is so very, very good.  I can lift my eyes and my spirit and say, “Thank you Heavenly Father , I praise you and in you I find Joy!

A Personal Note:

It saddens my heart to see so many celebrities in the media that have commuted suicide in the past few weeks and months.  Their stories are not ,unfortunately, the only ones. There are so many more that we do not know about.  We have brothers and sisters in Christ are struggling with real depression and mental illness, feeling there is no way out.  I felt God calling me to post these links in my blog today.  Please read them, learn and know the signs.  If you or a loved one needs help, I pray that you will reach out.  God has us here for a reason.  He has big plans.for us.
