Idle mind? Did Eve have an idle mind when the serpent so shrewdly hoodwinked her into believing it was okay to eat from the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil? (Genesis 3)
Well, I can’t speak for Eve, but I know for myself when my mind is idle I am leaving room for that sneaky serpent to slither right in and manage my thoughts. I begin over thinking, negative thinking, selfish thinking, and just plain wrong thinking.
Having idle minds, and that is exactly what the evil one wants of us, is an unproductive way to try to be in control. When we recognize our minds drifting off we can turn our thoughts back to Jesus. He is the One in control after all!
Over the past almost 15 days now our family has been really trying hard to heed the calling of our Government leaders by staying home. I don’t know about most of you, but I am getting a little cabin fever even though the weather here is finally drying up so I can get out and walk. I need a little rest from my hours of Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, online yoga and workouts and cleaning toilets!
Today’s verse of the day tells us just how to get the rest we need, not just during this time of the Covid-19 crisis we are facing, but once we get back to our “normal” lives.
“Come to Me” Jesus makes no qualms about it. He commands us to get ourselves straight to Him and He will give us all the rest we need. Any time of day or night. In good times and bad.
Even when you think all you have been doing is resting your body, I guarantee you, your mind just might need some rest right about now. I know mine sure does from all the negative media, even though we have limited our watching the news. in our home. And for my amazing husband, who is a News junky, this has been an awesome feat! ( Well to be quite honest I have become a little addicted to a particular morning news show myself!)
God’s word tells us in Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Let’s renew our minds during these unsure, social distancing times with God’s truth and light. Let’s renew our minds, hearts, and souls daily in The Word of God. We will be refreshed and revived.
We are not alone. God is with us and He is in control.
I am putting my full faith and trust in Him. Won’t you join me.
