Verse of the Day

Constantly Giving Thanks

Constantly being grateful is God’s will for us. ( 1 Thessalonians 5:18

But how often do we either write in our “Gratitude Journals” or in prayer thank God for our blessings then rush off to the next item on our list of “Things to Do”?

Guilty! Today’s verse reminds us that we need to carry our thankfulness for all our blessings with us throughout our day. Thanking the One who supplies all our needs all the time.

Sing along with your favorite praise music from your heart to Jesus during your day. Sing songs of praise and thanks directly to Him.

Pause several times during your day as you begin and end tasks to thank God for strength, endurance, and perseverance.

When falling asleep at night, thank your Father again for an amazing day He provided.

I think we will find that when we are grateful throughout our day we will find many more blessings we would have otherwise missed when we rush off to the next thing on the list.

Happy Friday Friends,

As we come to the end of November I wanted to let you know about what is coming up in December here at Living Joy Today. Things will be changing  up  with a series on Advent which will be posted on the four Sundays of Advent and the morning of December 24th, Christmas Eve.

To also add a little fun in the mix, since it is the season of Jesus and I do love giving, I am going to be giving away gift cards each week.  To be eligible for the give away, be a follower of Living Joy Today, like the post, and leave a comment.  It would also be great if you would share the blog with a friend,  Sharing is caring and I would love the Word of Jesus to spread.

4 Bible Verses To Remind Us ‘Tis the Season of Giving

Collage 2018-10-14 17_46_39

Christmas season is the time of giving.  Everywhere we turn there is opportunity to give during the holidays. Salvation Army Bell Ringers are out in full force, Angel Tree children await food, gifts, and clothing.  Food banks and shelters desperately need donations and gifts.  The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation , the list of amazing charities needing us to give goes on and on. And with the recent fires in California so many have lost everything and need donations.  God calls us, in Deuteronomy 16:17, “to give as we are able according to the blessing of the Lord your God that he has given you.”

This is also a wonderful time to share God’s Good News of giving with our children and grandchildren.  Showing them ways to give back not only begins to instill in them God’s message but also allows them the opportunity to give back themselves and to reap the eternal blessings that come with giving.

As families this Christmas season, we can work together to give confidently, generously, and joyfully not only with our  monetary giving but with our time and talents.

Here are three more Bible Verses to share with our children and grandchildren not only during the Christmas season but year round about the importance of giving back the blessing we receive from Jesus.

Be The Good

Malachi 3:10:  “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

Show our children that when we give confidently God provides.

Proverbs 12:14:  “From the fruit of their lips people are filled with good things,
and the work of their hands brings them reward.”

Give with your time and talents, and there will be a Heavenly reward.

2 Corinthians 9:6-7:  “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

Giving what you can joyfully pleases God.

Where will you give this season friend?  Will you choose to give of your time, talents, material blessings?  What charity will you choose to support?  And remember, so many charities need help throughout the year, such as our local food banks.  Let’s give of ourselves this Christmas season as Christ gave for us.

Don’t miss my Friday Joy post this week.  I will be letting you in on a little secret of what is to come in December!  You won’t want to miss out!  If you love the messages of Joy from God’s Word at Living Joy Today, please share it with your friends.

As November draws to a close this week, let’s continue to give God the praise and thanks for all things and people in our lives.   Thanks be to God for His never-failing love, peace, kindness, and strength.  But most of all, “Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift”. (2 Corinthians 9:15) Jesus Christ our Savior!   Amen!

6 Mighty Verses To Meditate On This Thanksgiving Season

Collage 2018-10-14 15_22_59

Meditating on scripture is a great way to make us slow ourselves down and be still with God.  When we take the time to meditate on God’s Word, we discover the meaning and how we can apply God’s wisdom and discernment in our daily lives.

“How does one meditate on scripture?”, you might ask. There are no right or wrong ways to meditate on Bible verses, like exercising, you just have to start.

A few ways I enjoy meditating on scripture are:

  1. Reading through the passage 3 times slowly.
  2. Write the verse in a journal.
  3. Rewrite the verse in first person using the pronouns I, me, and my.
  4. Circle or highlight important words or words that stand out in the verse.
  5. Praying the verse back to God.

There are tons and tons of other ways to meditate on scripture.  Verse mapping is another great way, I will be posting a blog in January on this concept.

What a better season than Thanksgiving to start (or if you are already meditating on scripture) trying a few ways to let God’s word soak into our souls.  Here are 5 mighty verses of Thanksgiving for you to focus on this month.

2 Corinthians 4:15:  All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.

Psalm 9:1:  I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.

1 Thessalonians 5:18: Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 28:7:  The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.

2 Corinthians 9:11:  You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

What other verses of Thanksgiving do you love?  Share them in the comments.

Happy meditating.  May you be blessed with God’s grace and love as you spend time in His word and live the Joy that He so graciously gives us through is Word and Holy Spirit.
